Location and directions.
Opening times: 4pm onwards each day and, additionally, 9am-1pm and 3pm until closing on Saturday and Sunday.
Rostrevor Tennis club is located in Kilbroney Forest Park in the Mourne Mountains in County Down, Northern Ireland.
The 97 acres that form Kilbroney Park, lie close to the shore of Carlingford Lough in the shadow of the forest-clad Slieve Martin. As a backdrop to Kilbroney Park stands the impressive 4,000 acre Rostrevor Forest rising sharply from 30m to 500m above sea level. It was planted in 1931, mostly with coniferous species. The road from the entrance to the park takes you steeply up to a car park. From here you take a short - but steep - walk to Cloughmore stone and panoramic views over Carlingford Lough. The stone weighs 40 tonnes and is in fact a remnant from the Scottish coastline, having been carried here in moving ice during the last ice age. Watch out too, for the local wildlife, ranging from grouse and Irish jays to pine martens, red and grey squirrels, foxes and badgers.
As well as the Tennis club in the park, there are a range of facilities and services. These include a children's play area, playing fields, an aboretum, barbeque and picnic areas and café, an ever expanding serviced caravan and camping site; newly laid mountain bike routes and a dedicated area for mountain bikers to park and to change afterwards. This is the first car park on the left. For those mountain biking, please avoid the limited size family car park besides the play ground. It is not big enough to accommodate those interested in riding their bikes and the walkers and families visiting the park and changing clothes in this area is not permitted with children around.
How to get there
The village of Rostrevor is on the A2 and is mid-way between Newry and Kilkeel. Rostrevor is only a 20 minute drive from Newry and approximately one hour from Belfast.
